About this course

The Quran was revealed in more than one mode of recitation, and ten of them have been passed down through mass-transmitted chains. Studying them is one of the most advanced fields of Quranic knowledge.

In this course you learn the ten Qira'at and their twenty narrations: who the readers were, how their recitations differ, and how to recite each one correctly. You'll study the classical texts of Ash-Shatibiyyah and Ad-Durrah with a specialized scholar.

Students can study one narration at a time or work towards an Ijazah in the Ten Qira'at.

What you'll learn

  • The ten readers and their twenty narrators
  • The general rules (usool) of each Qira'ah
  • Word-by-word differences (farsh al-huroof)
  • The texts of Ash-Shatibiyyah and Ad-Durrah
  • How to recite combining several narrations
  • A path to an Ijazah in the Qira'at
